How to Kill it at Your Next Branding Photo Shoot!

Branding photography is one the most effective tools in any business's pocket — but how do you make your shoot stand out from every other photo on the ‘gram? You can have the most amazing, life-changing, world-turning product or service on the market, but if your photography makes it look lack-luster, it can be hard for your clients to see it for what it’s worth. Here are a few scroll-stopping, click-boosting tips that will help you elevate your branding photoshoot.

1. Find ways to insert your branding elements

First off, what are branding elements? Branding elements are anything from colors to fonts, to textures, to symbols you use consistently in your branding.

So let’s say, for instance, lime green is one of your branding colors. You could bring shades of lime green into your shoot though:

  • An art print on the wall with a hint of lime green

  • A bright green smoothie in your hands

  • A tiny knick-knack on your desk while you work

Branding elements don’t need to be blaring visual car alarms to be effective, they just need to be consistent and intentional.

2. Preparation and Communication are key

Branding photoshoots require more input from the clients than your average family or engagement shoot. Your photographer might be able to make beautiful images but they, unfortunately, can’t read your mind. Maybe you need a landscape style photo with lots of negative space for text, or you need shots including a certain book or product for an upcoming blog post. Let them know ahead of time, or print them a little checklist so that they can make sure they get what you need! Overwhelmed, don’t worry, I gotcha covered. 3. Say CHEESE, please

Listen, if you’re a little shy, like me, this one is hard. BUT IT WORKS. Whether you sell products or services, people want to know who they are buying from. And not just in a, “could spot them in a police lineup” way, but in a real “could say hi to them at target,” kind of way. Generally speaking, faces in marketing build trust, and that is only amplified when it is YOUR beautiful/ handsome recognizable face. Make sure to include plenty of friendly and approachable portraits of YOU, the business owner, at your branding shoot.

Posts of me or my clients that include our faces get 2-3x more engagement.
